The Amazing Workplace of OG+S

Erin here: The following is from our high-school employee, Carter. I swear that it is his words (with some grammatical fixes from Katie and me), and that he didn’t get told he had to write nice things. Or even a promise of more ice cream. Though with this report, I am definitely going to be sure that he gets more ice cream outings on the firm’s dime.

When I first started working at OG+S, I was told by Erin that the workplace was a very inclusive one, one that included people from all sorts of backgrounds and interests. I was told that OG+S was a workplace that was diverse, not just in race or gender, but of ideas and life experiences. And after working here for two months, I could not agree more with these statements!

When I first started, one of my first tasks was to talk to my co-workers to discuss their lives and their interests, so we could learn about each other, as well as to further our ability to grow in the peaceful and amazing workplace that is OG+S. “The interviews,” as I called them, because I took notes on practically everything that was said, were very successful and informative. I learned so much about the lives of the people that I work with every day. I have also learned a great deal of what it is like to work in the legal world, which is something I am very interested in. Being able to talk to people who have a love of the law like I do and being able to ask them questions that I have is one of my favorite parts about working at OG+S. The amazing work environment was what made me feel comfortable as a sixteen-year-old to ask questions about what something means or why we do things a certain way.

Every interview allowed me to learn something, whether it be a part of the legal world or a part of the regular world. It helped me in building my view of life, and life in law. The one thing that I took from these interviews was that having co-workers with good character can make a great workplace. In the words of the late Senator John McCain, “It is your character, and your character alone, that will make your life happy or unhappy.” This quote applies to the workplace as well, and I am very happy to be working in a workplace that allows my co-workers and me to be who we are.

By being who we are, we are able to benefit OG+S; we are able to make things as simple as possible, but no simpler for our clients. With being who we are, we are able to ensure that we work in a peaceful, comfortable, and an amazing workplace that is OG+S.
