At the beginning of the year, I gave myself a personal challenge of wearing the same dress for 100 days. Yup, one single dress. I pared down my closet and found reasons to wear cute tights and leggings even if I was just sitting at my desk at home. During that time, I explored ideas about decision fatigue, slow money, fast fashion, and more. Much of that has also trickled into my blog posts and social media. But I also realized how much you can do in a 100 days plus how fast that time can go. Why am I telling you this? Because 100 days from now is December 30. Yeah. Uffda. So let’s finish this year strong. That doesn’t mean without stumbles or setbacks. It means with intention and resilience.
In the past, we’ve given you some ideas of what to do at year end. But perhaps you have other ideas or needs. I definitely have lots of projects that are staring me down, but what we need is a plan. A plan to make December a time for celebration, relief, and letting things go. We all know we have been through a lot this year. Jeff Glazer has a fun Substack about learning value-added agriculture and recently did a post about Learning to Plan and Planning to Learn.
But here’s my plan to plan. I am going to list my top 10 things that I want to get done. I’m not going to worry about should or could, just want. Then I’m going to take a big, deep breath and realize that I am not possibly going to get all of them done. (See “letting stuff go” above.) That means I need to pick and choose. Let’s go with three things. I will get three things done.
Then the next step is accountability. I need to be accountable, and it has been shown that it helps to have an accountability partner. That can be a friend, social media, a coach. Luckily, I have all of those. I also find a chart with stickers helps. Yes, I am a child, but if shiny stars gets me there, shiny stars it is!
Finally, I’ll need flexibility. Life, as we know, happens. So I’ll give myself as much grace as I try to give others. Let us know what you are planning for the next 100 days. Or if you want to meet me out for a beer to work on our shiny sticker chart.
